Dr. Anwar Ibrahim – the former Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia was today appointed honorary president of the international think tank AccountAbility.

Anwar – a prominent advocate for democracy, freedom– and the rule of law -
said he will use his new role to address gapsamong four key institutional areas of accountability:

1. Governments: ensuring that governments can be effectively held to account by their citizens.

2. Corporations: ensuring that corporations account to their customers and communities, not just to their shareholders.

3. NGOs: ensuring that NGOs account to beneficiaries, as well as their donors.

4. Lobbyists: increasing the accountability of the lobbying process
