(Sentosa/Singapore) Reflecting the growing importance of environmental, social and governance issues for Asian businesses. the ASEAN Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Network was launched at the second International Singapore Compact CSR Summit. Over 300 participants from business, civil society and government attended the event.
The new, Singapore-based network aims to
- develop a model public policy on CSR for reference of ASEAN Member States;
- engage the private sector to support the activities of sectoral bodies and the ASEAN Foundation, in the field of corporate social responsibility;
- encourage adoption and implementation of international standards on social responsibility;
- increase awareness of CSR in ASEAN towards sustainable relations between commercial activities and communities where they are located, in particular supporting community-based development.
“ASEAN has recognised the importance of CSR not just to achieve the socio-cultural objectives of the community but also to drive other ASEAN goals,” said Olivia Lum, President of the Singapore Compact for CSR, “We are committed to the growth of CSR values, in Singapore, the region and globally.”
During the Summit a new resource was released by the Singapore Compact for CSR, Socially Responsible and Sustainable – Company Perspectives and Experiences, which features several case stories of corporate implementation of CSR.
